Liverpool are reportedly the last club to have joined the race for Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes.
Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias today features a story claiming the 23-year-old is the Sporting player who’s been drawing ‘most attention from Premier League sides’.
Wolverhampton Wanderers were the first to move for him, then Chelsea started following the midfielder as well, and according to the outlet, it’s ‘more recently Liverpool’ who have started to be interested in the signing.
Jornal de Notícias makes it clear, though, that no official offers were made to Sporting so far, and it won’t be easy to convince them of a deal.
The first reason because manager Ruben Amorim doesn’t want to lose another midfielder following João Palhinha’s move to Fulham, and the player claimed he’d like to stay as well.
So, Sporting are set to only negotiate for a fee of over €40m.
The player, who has a contract running until 2026, is protected by a €60m release clause.
Since Liverpool’s chase is clearly new, we shall wait and see if the Reds’ interest will be strong enough for them to move for the signing soon.
