Scoring the winner in a 1-0 win over Bologna at the weekend, Lucas Torreira reinforced the belief that Fiorentina will trigger the €15m option to buy in the loan deal struck with Arsenal last summer.
The Uruguay international was out of favour at the Emirates, where Mikel Arteta seemed reluctant to include him in his plans, and despite a poor spell with Atlético Madrid the season before, the midfielder was given a new chance, this time by the Serie A side.
It’s one he’s grabbed with both hands, and he’s made it very clear he’d like to continue in Florence if he can, confirming that his agents had met with the club to see if a deal could be done.
Whether it does happen remains to be seen, but there is one man out there who believes the €15m is a bargain, and that’s ex-Fiorentina midfielder and now agent Daniele Amerini.
Speaking to Firenze Viola about the Arsenal loanee, he made it clear he was in favour of him staying beyond the current season.
He said: “In Italy, I remembered him as an inexhaustible player able to dictate the play, but now he really does everything: he recovers the ball, saves the result at the edge of the area, brings pressure, sets the tempo and even scores goals.
“He really amazed me, and I must say that if La Viola redeem him from Arsenal for €15m, they will have done a great deal: now is the right time to do so.”
