Loaned from Benfica for the season, Alfa Semedo has made quite the impression at Reading FC.

The Championship club are currently sixth in the table, two points ahead of Stoke City, with the defensive midfielder contributing greatly to their form.

Starting 13 from a possible 18 games for Reading so far, the 23-year-old has caught the attention of a number of Premier League clubs, with O Jogo in Portugal claiming they’ve already started making ‘enquiries’ with Benfica about a transfer as early as the January transfer window.

Semedo is loaned until the end of the current campaign, and the Royals even have a €6m option to make the move permanent, but it’s now believed they could see him leave in the coming weeks.

The Portuguese newspaper state Reading ‘run the risk of losing the footballer in January’ if the interested Premier League clubs give Benfica the money they want for a player who is in no shape or form part of their plans going forward.

This certainly isn’t what the Madejski faithful will want to hear, but it appears to be something very capable of happening next month if someone seriously knocks on the Liga NOS club’s door.
