Portuguese side Sporting have reached an agreement with Reading defender Tiago Ilori, according to the Portuguese press today.
Newspaper Record says that as the Lions try to sign the 25-year-old from the Royals, he’s already given green light to the transfer and has a ‘verbal agreement’.
Sporting still need, however, to find a deal with Reading. The Championship side are demanding €3m for the transfer, and the Portuguese club don’t want to spend all that.
Record claims that an initial €1.5m bid has already been rejected, and now a new offer from the Lions could be around €2m.
It’s not like Sporting don’t have €3m to spend, but the word at the club is that they don’t want to pay much for a player who, at least initially, will be sitting on the bench and trying to take the place of Sebastian Coates or Jeremy Mathieu.
On the other hand, Ilori has 20 appearances for Reading this season, being an important asset for the club.
