Not so long after ruling the Mesut Ozil option out, because of the what they described as the player’s problem private life, the Catalan media are ruling it back in on Wednesday.
Again being seen as an alternative to Coutinho, Ozil is today stated as the third option, with second being Gremio’s Arthur.
Perhaps predictably, Raul Sanllehi, who recently left Barcelona to take up a role at Arsenal, has been dragged into the situation. Sport state that before Sanllehi left Barcelona he made a ‘final gesture’ in the Ozil case.
The now Arsenal man ‘laid foundations’ for a meeting between the Catalan club and Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut. This meeting is said to have taken place last Thursday in Barcelona.
It was made clear that Ozil is very much up for the transfer, and Sogut assured Barcelona he had permission from Arsenal to negotiate a January sale, which goes against what Arsene Wenger has said publicly.
Ozil is said to be well aware he’s not first choice, and all the parties involved will maintain contact and then initiate things again should the situation dictate.
Of course, this could all change with the wind.
