Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias at the weekend featured a story pointing out the summer signings who haven’t been doing great for their clubs so far.
The outlet named one player for each big club in the country: Porto, Benfica, and Sporting. And when speaking of the Lions, the chosen one is Ruben Vinagre.
The fullback was loaned by Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of the season, and so far, his ten appearances for the Lions were far from enough to impress at Alvalade.
Jornal de Notícias points out that Vinagre only played one full game, and hasn’t featured for nearly two months due to an injury. And “even while he was physically fit, he accumulated just 618 minutes, with Ruben Amorim giving him few opportunities”.
Now the most interesting part is regarding Vinagre’s future at the club, because when loaned by Wolves in the summer, it was many times claimed by the Portuguese media that the move included an obligatory buying clause for the Lions.
Jornal de Notícias, however, insists that’s only an option in the contract. Moreover, they claim that ‘at this rate he won’t stay at the Lions’.
So either Vinagre turns things around in the coming months, or it seems he could be back at Molineux, where he has a contract running until 2024.
