Bruno Alves to Benevento looks like it’s dead.
At one point over the past few days a transfer was talked up in Scotland and it was claimed Rangers had agreed to the January move.
However, in Italy there was still a lot of doubt, and personal terms certainly weren’t agreed.
A couple of days ago Corriere dello Sport talked down the potential arrival from Ibrox, with the Italian newspaper saying Benevento weren’t ‘fully convinced’ about signing the 36 year old Portuguese defender.
On Wednesday, Gazzetta dello Sport said Benevento are now ‘far’ from potentially signing Bruno Alves, and were moving on to other targets for the January window.
Graeme Murty’s comments this week about wanting to keep the player at Rangers suggested a move had become less likely, and that’s being echoed in the Italian media.
Thursday’s edition of Tuttosport has an article looking at defenders Benevento could bring in before the window closes next week, and Alves doesn’t even get a mention.
Unless something changes quickly, this one is over.
There was interest, which would suggest money has played its part in killing the deal.
