Rangers are one of the sides interested in signing Real Betis defensive midfielder Paul Akouokou, according to reports from Spain.

It’s outlet AS who share a story on the 24-year-old, claiming that his performances for the La Liga side have been drawing interest from a couple of clubs.

Rangers are reportedly keen, with AS pointing out that the Scottish club are ‘back to the elite’, after their European adventure under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The other club said to be keen is Almeria, who are close to promotion to the first division in Spain.

Akouokou only has 11 appearances for Betis this season, and the story points out that’s due to the big competition he has for a place in midfield, as that’s something that should be considered when taking a decision on his future.

Still, the piece lists some of the features of the Ranges target: ‘At 1.90 metres tall, he’s a strong footballer, with a lot of experience on the pitch and physical presence. He goes very well in interceptions. He likes to play with short passes and offers danger from indirect free kicks, corners and throw-ins, strategy plays.’

AS says that ‘sources close to his entourage’ admit the interest from both Almeria and Rangers. However, there’s been no formal offered presented to Betis just yet.

On Transfermarkt, Akouokou has a valuation of €5m.
