Allowed to leave on a free transfer by Rangers, before Philippe Clément took over at Ibrox, Robbie Ure signed for Anderlecht in Belgium, where he is playing with their Futures side in the Challenger Pro League.

He has five goals and two assists in 10 games for the secondary Belgian side, which has impressed many, as explained in a report by Het Nieuwsblad.

The 19-year-old, who had made three appearances for Rangers’ first-team before leaving, is biding his time for now, knowing he will likely get a chance for Anderlecht’s first-team down the line.

The outlet explain how the move came about, with the Belgians claiming a ‘favourable set of circumstances’ helped them land the striker, who was ‘looking for a new team’ after ‘deciding to leave’ Ibrox.

Rangers simply didn’t ‘offer him enough development opportunities’, which led him to seek football elsewhere, undergoing some trials first at AZ Alkmaar and then Anderlecht.

Described by the Futures’ assistant manager, David Hubert, as an opportunity they simply ‘had to seize’, the signing of Ure has gone far better than expected, where his job was to replace the prolific Lucas Stassin, who signed for Westerlo.

The now former Rangers man is bringing some experience to the young dressing room, having learned a lot in Scotland while being around the Ibrox first-team.

Hubert said: “Our conversations revealed a very mature boy for his age, and he proves that by behaving like a leader. He was already part of Rangers’ A-team, and that is reflected in his behaviour. Moreover, he has the necessary football intelligence. That is important on the field.

“I never had the feeling that he saw his arrival as a step back. I explain it by his maturity, but also by the project we were able to offer him.”

In short, Anderlecht’s Futures team are reaping the benefit of Rangers’ lack of dedication to the young striker.
