A couple of days ago we covered a Gazzetta dello Sport report which was very bullish on AS Roma’s chances of signing Borna Barisic.

Steven Gerrard recently admitted he knows there’s interest in the player, and suggested every Rangers player has a price, but Gazzetta seemed to vastly underestimate the one attached to Barisic.

It was stated the fullback would cost ‘around €5m’, and even suggested Roma would be looking to loan the Rangers player, with an option to sign him permanently. The option power would all be with the Italian club and they could send Barisic back to Ibrox if he didn’t impress enough.

Completely unrealistic.

Now the Italian media realise that. Thursday’s edition of the same newspaper states Barisic is ‘too expensive’ for Roma.

Corriere dello Sport reports talks between Roma and the Scottish Premiership club ‘don’t take off’ and ‘Rangers ask a lot’.

Gerrard doesn’t want to lose his player, and therefore Roma are now looking at other options in the market.
