Mesut Özil’s situation at Arsenal isn’t getting any better, even if Unai Emery did offer some words of support (kind of) in his last press conference.

That being said, it doesn’t mean people behind the scenes aren’t trying to get the midfielder’s £350k/week off the Emirates wage bill, with various reports emerging about the player being offered to clubs around Europe.

Juventus and Inter were targeted first, who both said no, and now it’s Milan’s turn, who are umming and ahing about it.

Corriere dello Sport state Paolo Maldini, part of the Serie A club’s decision making team, likes the idea of signing the Arsenal playmaker on loan, being a big fan of what he can do, but there’s an unlikely adversary in the opposite camp: Ivan Gazidis.

The Milan chief, who swapped the Emirates for San Siro recently, isn’t convinced by the move’s ‘feasibility’ nor of the ‘kindness’ of the offer.

What’s rather ironic in all this is he was among those giving the green light for Arsenal to hand Özil those wages, keeping him at the club until 2021.

Other than the financial aspect, Gazidis is also said to have a different vision for Milan’s future than Leonardo and Maldini.

The two former players would prefer to see experienced footballers come in, such as the German, while the former Arsenal chief would prefer younger signings mixed with a few re-sellable 25-26 year olds.

Özil splitting opinions? Colour us shocked.
