Over the past week or so, we’ve seen a reemergence of claims that Newcastle United could make a move for Ciro Immobile.

It’s easy to see where it all stems from, as the player has struggled to find his best form over the past couple of games, with Lazio picking up just one point from their last four outings.

That being said, they are still set to qualify for next year’s Champions League, and having gone this far with them, giving his all to put them in his position, it would be strange for him to turn down the chance of playing in Europe’s elite competition by moving to St James’ Park.

However, Corriere dello Sport make a very valid point on Friday when talking about the Italy international’s future, who is now 30.

In his prime years and fully aware his career will come to an end sooner rather than later, the Italian newspaper say that should a ‘pharaonic offer’ be made by someone like Newcastle, it’s one he ‘would evaluate’ since it could end up being his last big contract.

Corriere tell Lazio they should avoid this by giving him a ‘renewal’ that would tie him to his current project, as he only earns ‘a little bit more than €3m/year’, which is described as ‘inferior to many of his colleagues’.

The ball is in the Serie A club’s hands, and should the takeover at Newcastle go through in the coming weeks or months, then there’s a possibility of them being able to lure Immobile to St James’ Park.

It’s a very slim one, let’s be honest, but it appears to be there nonetheless.
