Anderlecht CEO of Sports Jesper Fredberg has insisted that it was they who got rid of Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Fabio Silva last month because “his profile no longer corresponded”.
Silva had been on loan with the Belgian side since the summer, moving there to get regular gametime and kickstart his career following a miserable couple of years at Molineux for him.
He managed to do just that, scoring 11 goals and registering four assists in 32 games in all competitions for the club in the first half of the campaign.
It was very much a relationship that was working out well for both parties, but it was brought to an abrupt end towards the end of January, when the deal was cancelled and he returned to Wolves only to then be sent out to PSV Eindhoven.
Indeed, his father has commented on the situation, hitting out at those criticising the Wolves man and blaming him for the situation.
Now Fredberg has had his say, insisting it was a case of Silva no longer fitting in with their plans moving forwards.
“Silva is a very good footballer, but his profile no longer matched the way we want to play football,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“He could no longer be the best version of himself here and then you have to find a solution. In the games without him, Raman and Stroeykens achieved a nice average anyway.”
