Martin Ødegaard’s search of regular playing time saw him join Arsenal on loan in January.
There was no purchase option included in the deal and the midfielder must return to Real Madrid when his loan deal expires at the end of this season.
On Tuesday, the 22-year-old told Sky Germany he’s happy at the Emirates, but he also admitted there’s the need for him to hold talks with Los Blancos.
“I am happy here at Arsenal, but we will see after the season what will happen. At the moment, I don’t know. I’m owned by Real Madrid, so we have to speak to them. It’s important to know what they want,” he said.
The Norwegian’s comments are relayed in today’s edition of AS and the newspaper then covers the north London club’s chance of retaining him.
It’s claimed ‘the problem for the Gunners’ with Ødegaard is that Real Madrid count on him, despite him being open to signing for Arsenal again.
The La Liga side’s board remain ‘convinced’ the player will ‘triumph’ at the club, which is why they ‘don’t intend to sell’ him to Mikel Arteta’s side or any other club.
The second half of this season has made it clear the Spanish club must strengthen in midfield, more so if you take into account Isco’s potential exit and that Luka Modrić will turn 36 years of age in September.
‘There will be room’ for Ødegaard at Real Madrid and despite him putting ‘pressure’ on the club to sort out his transfer situation, Arsenal will have a ‘problem’ to sign him again in the upcoming window due to the stance taken by the Spanish side.
