Lyon star Rachid Ghezzal was reportedly a target for Everton during the summer transfer window. The Algerian international in the end opted to stay at the Ligue 1 club with another year left on his contract.
Ghezzal was particularly impressive during the second half of last season, and Lyon are currently negotiating a new contract with him.
According to L’Equipe on Saturday, Ghezzal was target for several clubs including Everton. The Merseyside club had an agreement with Lyon, and offered the player a salary of €400,000/month, which is twenty times his current wages.
However, even his representatives, Abdelkader Ghezzal and Pascal Yvars, want him to stay where he is, and have been negotiating for a while.
L’Equipe say negotiations have ‘warmed’ in recent days, but behind the scenes there are positive signs.
Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas was asked about the player’s contract status, to which he replied: “We just couldn’t agree on an extension but I decided that with or without an extension, he would play because the coach needs him.
“I had several meetings with him to discuss his contract situation. For the rest, he knows he has my trust.”
Ghezzal is expected to make his return from injury against Bordeaux on Saturday.
