Former Manchester United U18 coach Paul McGuinness has been speaking to the French media about Paul Pogba’s return to Old Trafford.

McGuinness was in charge of the youth squad at Manchester United when Paul Pogba arrived from French club Le Havre as a 16-year-old.

The coach was a guest on France’s SFR Sport ahead of the Manchester derby. He insisted Pogba was ‘impatient’ and that the club wanted to keep him.

He said: “I remember Paul Pogba as a charismatic figure. We absolutely wanted him to remain at the club. They say it was a mistake by Manchester United. With Pogba, we wanted to go step by step, but he was impatient and wanted to go fast.”

However, McGuinness now believes Pogba has developed as a player, and suits Manchester United’s style.

He added: “I see Paul Pogba as a player who is mature, he really has the Manchester United style.”
