On August 8th, TuttoMercatoWeb reported Fiorentina’s Nicolás González wasn’t in favour of a move to Brentford after they tabled a €30m bid for him.
Later that month, the Bees reportedly returned with an improved €40m offer but it was rejected by the Serie A side.
TuttoMercatoWeb now mention Fiorentina turning down Brentford’s bid, when discussing the 25-year-old’s long-term future at the club.
Over at Il Tirreno, they also say Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso rejected Brentford’s offer and now wants to ‘reward’ the winger with a new contract to make him ‘one of the reference points’ of the club.
The South American’s current deal lasts until 2026 and Firenze Viola state he’s now one step away from signing a two-year extension. The renewal will see his salary improve from €1.5m plus bonuses to €2.5m [including bonuses] per year.
González has starred this season, managing four goals and an assist from seven games.
The outlet claims his attitude has changed and the relationship with manager Vincenzo Italiano has also improved, which is why he’s now at the centre of Fiorentina’s plans.
