Boca Juniors president Juan Roman Riquelme is ‘on alert’ as Newcastle United eye midfielder Kevin Zenón.
That’s according to Boca Noticias, who say Newcastle are actively looking at the Boca Juniors star and that’s got those in charge at the club on alert.
The Argentine side have already seen several of their key men depart in recent months, with Cristian Medina, Pol Fernández and Equi Fernandez all heading elsewhere.
Zenón is the last man standing but that might not be for long as Newcastle are believed to be keen on him.
Boca Juniors are keen to keep him and can do so until January at least, but questions will be raised about that stance should they receive a ‘considerable offer’.
If Newcastle were to make an ‘effective’ offer, there is a feeling the Argentine side would be ready to accept, although it is not clear what price they would sell at. His current release clause is €15m, so they’d likely ask for that to be met at least.
Either way, they are aware of Newcastle’s interest and that’s put Riquelme on alert, readying himself for a firm bid to be made by the Magpies.
