Bordeaux president Gerard Lopez has denied they received a bid from Leeds United for striker Alberth Elis this summer.
The French club are currently locked in a financial crisis that has seen them relegated to the third division due to their financial difficulties.
That’s something that Lopez and his team are fighting, but even if they are moved back to the second tier, a major fire sale at the club is expected.
Elis is one of those who is likely to be moved on, and back in June, Leeds were said to have ‘approached’ the French side about a move. Elis even responded to the rumours directly in an interview.
There’s been little talk of a move to Elland Road since then, with Leeds spending their money elsewhere as Jesse Marsch overhauls his squad.
However, Lopez last night appeared on the RMC show After Foot to discuss the situation, and the subject of Elis and Leeds was brought up.
He explained that player sales are planned at Bordeau, and they’re looking to bring in €14m in total to inject into the club.
In this context, they’ve received “written offers” for four players, €6m for Hwang Ui-Jo, €9m for Jean Onana, €10-11m for Sékou Mara and €11-12m for Alberth Elis.
However, he insisted while the Whites were brought into the picture there was nothing concrete, stating, “there was talk of Leeds, but Leeds did not make an offer.”
That should put an end to this particular transfer rumour for the time being, although with sales clearly planned at Bordeaux, perhaps Leeds will be back in the picture before too long.
