German outlet Transfermarkt today features an interview with Lazar Samardzic, who left RB Leipzig to join Udinese last summer.
The midfielder had a lot to say about his start in the Bundesliga and now his first season in Italy, where he’s still fighting for a place in his team.
When speaking about Udinese, any journalist who knows a little about the transfer market will think about Watford because of the Pozzo ownership. So Samardzic was asked about this ‘close relationship’ between the clubs and the ‘pretty short’ route he could have to the Premier League.
It turns out that even though the 19-year-old claimed there are no plans of a move to the Hornets for now, he still left the door open for a potential future at Vicarage Road.
“We knew that this connection existed and it was also clear to me that several players had already followed this path. But it wasn’t said that in two years’ time I would go to Watford and try my luck there,” Samardzic told Transfermarkt.
“We made it clear in the negotiations that I should be a regular in Udine, then we’ll see what comes next. Watford was not a subject. Maybe it will, the Premier League would be nice.”
Still with his first steps taken in Italy, where he has one goal and two assists in 12 appearances for Udinese this season, Samardzic probably needs to do a little more to get Watford fans excited about the chances of a move. Still, he seems eager to soon show his skills in England.
