Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos should soon find a new loan.

That was confirmed by the player himself in an interview with Globo Esporte, as he’s just joined the Pre-Olympic national team.

Chelsea signed the midfielder from Vasco da Gama in a €12.5m deal back in January 2023. Due to the lack of a work permit, he stayed in Brazil until last summer.

At the start of the season, Santos was loaned to Nottingham Forest, but he was only used by the Tricky Trees twice, and that’s why his spell ended up being cut short.

The midfielder understands the situation and is now looking forward to doing better for his next club.

“It was my choice. Unfortunately it wasn’t what we all imagined. I thought I was going to play and so on, I was always ready, always good, but it was the coach’s choice, and I respect that. I carried on working and, thank God, I’m back at Chelsea, ready to give my best in any team I go to.

“I think it took me a little while to adapt, I think about a month, because of the speed of the game. It’s very different, people in the Premier League are very intense, very fast, very strong. I think it took me a month to adapt there, but today I’m relaxed about it.”

Andrey Santos doesn’t mind admitting that he’s been looking for more experience, and revealed that he’s been speaking to Mauricio Pochettino about his next step.

“I thank God for the pre-season I had, which was very good for Chelsea. Hardly anyone expected me to arrive and adapt so quickly, with great players, and I’d never played in Europe before. I played some great games against good teams, Brighton, Newcastle. As for the conversation with Pocchettino, we preferred to wait for this Pre-Olympic to decide my situation.”

The player is committed to Chelsea with a contract until 2030, and since he’s just 19, there’s plenty of time for him to turn things around. As the Pre-Olympic tournament draws many scouts, he can certainly be targeted by a new club there.
