Making it 26 games in all competitions without a defeat, it’s fair to say Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are the team in form in Europe these days.
When facing such a side, the last thing you want to do is give the opposition easy chances, which, unfortunately, Lech Poznan, who were already bottom of their Europa League group ahead of Thursday’s fixture, did.
Gifting Cédric Itten the first goal, they were then unable to stop Ianis Hagi from scoring the second, meaning they would end their Europa League campaign with a defeat.
Only Livingston, Hibernian and Benfica (twice) have managed to make Rangers drop points, with Przeglad Sportowy describing them as ‘practically unstoppable’.
Lech, who were hoping to go out on a high, ‘ran out of arguments’, wasting what few chances they had, leaving the ‘wise’ Scottish team to neutralise them for a large chunks of the game.
Sportowefakty feel the Polish side ‘lost their spirit’ when the first goal went in, describing Rangers as ‘pragmatic’, only ‘accelerating from time to time, but when they did, Lech got lost’.
It was an ‘outstanding’ performance from Gerrard’s men that secured them the win, although they certainly got some help along the way.
