Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas is set to sign a new contract with the Italian club, despite interest from Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer.

That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, relaying information from Il Messaggero, who report that the new deal contract for the goalkeeper is ‘practically a done deal’ at this point.

They report that Mandas ‘gives the green light’ to the renewal which will see him extend his contract to 2029 and include an increase in salary.

The official announcement on that is expected shortly and the player has already put the agreement in writing.

This follows months of negotiations followed by a meeting in mid-February between his entourage and Lazio president Claudio Lotito. That had the desired effect, and a deal is now set to be finalised.

That’s a major coup for Lazio, who are moving against the market and looking to ensure they don’t lose the goalkeeper to the Premier League after Manchester City and Wolves moved for him in the summer. Manchester City made a €12m bid.

Lazio rejected this and refused to sit at the table with them or Wolves and have instead worked to get him signed to a new deal. They’ve succeed on that front and that’s now close to being announced.
