AC Milan could look to sign Newcastle United defender Federico Fernandez this summer, according to CalcioMercato.
Milan are looking to reshape their squad for new manager Marco Giampaolo but have very limited funds to do so.
They have already been forced to sit out of the Europa League next season because of their financial issues and cannot afford to spend big in the transfer market.
That means they are looking at cheap options across the park, particularly players with only a year left on their contract, and that’s led them to look at Fernandez.
His contract expires at St James Park next summer so it’s thought he’d likely be available on the cheap and he’s hardly a key player at the club, having made just 22 appearances under Rafa Benitez last season.
That could change under Steve Bruce, although Newcastle haven’t hesitated to sell players if there are any interested parties this summer.
Fernandez would represent a smart choice for Milan, given his experience in the Premier League and the 64 games he managed at Napoli as well. If he’s available on the cheap, this one may pick up quickly.
