After some time of silence, Wolves are back being mentioned in the chase for Sporting goalkeeper Rui Patrício.
It’s the Portuguese newspaper O Jogo who has a story about the player today, claiming that Napoli have just made a bid for him.
Sporting and Napoli have been talking for a few months now, and in one of the conversations, they had kind-of-agreed that €25m would be enough to take Patrício.
But now, the Italian side would have offered something between €15m and 20m for the goalkeeper. They are taking advantage of the chaos at Sporting, plus the player’s wish to leave the club as soon as possible.
The problem is that Sporting can take it as an offence (they take everything that way, and such a low bid could spoil the clubs’ relationship for the development in the negotiations.
That’s why other competitors still have a chance, and these would be Juventus and Wolves.
Regarding the Championship winners, O Jogo claims to have their own information that Wolves are after the goalkeeper.
They mention that Jorge Mendes is having a role in the goalkeeper’s transfer, and they point out he also has big influence at the Molineux side, who are in need of signings for the Premier League season.
For now, it doesn’t sound like Wolves have bid or are in advanced talks for Patrício. But if Napoli continue to fail to get him, maybe Nuno Espírito Santo’s side will have a chance.
