After some reports saying Reading have been in talks to sign João Virgínia from Everton, the Portuguese press now claims it’s a done deal.

Website Mais Futebol reports the goalkeeper is joining the Royals on a one-year loan deal from the Toffees.

It’s claimed that the player sees the move ‘with good eyes’, and is excited to work under José Gomes, with the aim to grow in the Championship.

Mais Futebol reports that the official announcement should be made in the next few days.

João Virgínia started his career at Benfica. He moved to Arsenal in 2015, where he stayed for three years, until joining Everton in 2018.

Although that looks like a long career, the goalkeeper is still 19, and hasn’t made a professional debut yet. That’s probably why joining Reading at this stage sounds like an exciting opportunity for him to finally get some playing time.

He’s also moving from one Portuguese manager to another.
