In November, Paulo Fonseca to Everton stories were everywhere, with the Portuguese and English media giving their own takes on the situation.

In Portugal, it was reported Everton had offered the Shakhtar Donetsk manager a contract for the rest of the current season and then a further two years after that.

There was disagreement in the Portuguese media over Everton’s chances, with some stating negotiations were ongoing with Shakhtar, and others saying the Ukraine club had outright refused approaches from the English side.

Shakhtar are now trying to get Fonseca to renew his contract, which ends with the Ukrainian season, but he’s stalling as he’s attracted to the Premier League.

O Jogo say, according to their own information, Fonseca fancies trying his chances in English football, having seen so many of his compatriots already make the move and have varying degrees of success.

There’s no claim of any fresh approach from Everton, but the Merseyside club are mentioned as one which has been linked. PSG are also named, and that would be a very attractive proposition, but they’re not in the Premier League.

Any Everton opportunity will depend on what the club decides to do with Sam Allardyce at the end of the season.
