Earlier today we covered a report from Portuguese newspaper Record which stated Newcastle United’s attempt to sign Sporting’s Palhinha didn’t really get off the ground because of the structure of the deal proposed by the Magpies.
That’s not a big blow for Eddie Howe’s side, as Lyon’s Bruno Guimarães seemed to be their first choice anyway, and he’s on the verge of joining the Premier League club.
Record also mentioned that Newcastle are keen on Sporting’s Gonçalo Inácio, which made sense given he’s a central defender. The Portuguese newspaper didn’t offer any further information on any approach for the player.
Pedro Sepulveda, a Portuguese journalist, has now brought an ‘exclusive’, and he claims Newcastle have made an offer of €30m for the 20-year-old. That seems like a good deal for Sporting, but it’s claimed the bid has been rejected.
According to the same journalist, Newcastle will continue to keep an eye on the player ahead of the summer transfer window.
This one may not be as dead as it seems, Sporting aren’t flushed with cash and €30m is a reasonable offer for the defender.
