Since Wolverhampton Wanderers today announced the departure of manager Nuno Espírito Santo, we’ve obviously been keeping an eye on the Portuguese media to see what they have to say.

Local reports first covered the coach’s exit from the Premier League side. Then they started replicating the news from England regarding the options Wolves have to replace him.

Now we finally get to see the first exclusive report from Portuguese outlets. It comes from O Jogo, and says Bruno Lage is the ‘priority target’ for the Molineux side this summer.

The outlet doesn’t bring any details of how the chase has been going so far. All they say is the former Benfica coach is the ‘preferred’ option for Wolves.

Bruno Lage started his coaching career at Benfica and then left his country to be Carlos Carvalhal’s assistant. That’s where he got some experience in British football, as he worked at Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City.

He then went back to Benfica, first taking charge of the B squad, and then the first team. He managed the Eagles until last summer, and hasn’t taken a new job since then.

Previous reports from the Portuguese media had already claimed last month that Lage would be Wolves’ alternative in case Nuno Espírito Santo left the club.
