Literally all the five Portuguese newspapers we’ve read this Friday have stories on José Gomes’ move from Rio Ave to Reading.
A Bola, O Jogo, Record, Correio da Manhã and Jornal de Notícias all report the manager’s departure from Portugal, saying he should take charge of the Royals very soon.
A Bola and Correio da Manhã have simple stories, only saying the clubs have found a deal and Gomes is close to completing the move.
Now the others have more interesting claims. Jornal de Notícias says Reading are paying ‘over €500k’ to get the manager, and once things are sorted, he will ‘immediately’ fly to England to sign for the Royals. They say only details were left when they closed their Friday issue.
O Jogo says that Reading are paying €750k for the manager now and other €250k later. They say he’s taking his staff along with him, and only give praise to the manager for leaving the club in 6th position in the Portuguese League table.
Finally, Record claimed Gomes would still manage the training session at Rio Ave this morning, but would soon move to Reading, where he would make his debut on Wednesday in the match against Milwall.
They say the offer for the Vitória Guimarães manager Luís Castro was of an amount of €11m for a contract until 2021, including the bonus for a Premier League promotion. They call it an ‘ambitious project’, and expect Gomes’ contract to be something similar.
