Ricardo Pereira’s €20m transfer to Leicester City may not have meant a big deal for the Premier League market, but it’s being taken as a pretty good sale for Porto.
On Tuesday, as newspaper Correio da Manhã has a story about Pereira’s replacement Diogo Dalot, they claim the Foxes transfer is set to become Porto’s biggest sale of a fullback ever.
Apparently, the €20m paid by Leicester City is still not enough for that, but the €5m bonuses included in the deal will help break the record.
That’s the interesting part in the story. They say that of the €5m, €4m are ‘easily reachable’, although they don’t describe what the performance goals are. Porto are said to be expecting that extra money already.
We’ll just guess that it means a certain number of appearances, so probably by the end of the season, Leicester City will have paid €24m for Pereira in total.
On Monday, Porto published a farewell video in which the 24-year-old says it’s been a difficult decision to leave the club, thanking all the players, fans and staff. He also claimed ‘this is not a farewell, but a see you soon’.
