Portuguese manager Paulo Sousa continues to be linked to English clubs.
Back in November, several reports claimed that Southampton were interested in the 48-year-old, and there was a stage when it even sounded like he would take the job.
Well, he didn’t, and now Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims he’s rejected a Championship side as well.
According to the outlet, Nottingham Forest made an approach to sign Sousa recently, but he turned it down. Sousa has managed in the UK previously, with QPR, Swansea City and Leicester City.
The report claims he’s waiting for a job in a ‘more expressive league’, and that’s why the Championship isn’t part of the plans for now.
Sousa is unemployed since he left his job at Chinese side Tianjin Tianhai in October. But he doesn’t seem like in a hurry to take charge of another club, as he’s enjoying the company of friends and family in Portugal.
Now if his plan is really to work in a ‘more expressive’ league, we wonder why he didn’t take the job at Southampton last year. That is, in case the offer really existed.
Nottingham Forest appointed Martin O’Neill as their new manager on January 15th.
