In quite shocking news this afternoon, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Paulo Fonseca’s move to Tottenham Hotspur is off.

According to his claims, the Premier League side had to give up on signing the former Roma boss due to ‘tax reasons’, and should now move for other targets.

Now it’s time for the manager’s home country to have their say on what’s happening, as there are a couple of stories coming out from the Portuguese media.

Website Desporto Ao Minuto confirms that Fonseca isn’t signing the deal, even though he had agreed a contract of two-years, with an option for an extra one.

They say the negotiations had been on for over a week, and the agreement collapsed due to a ‘series of obstacles’.

Journalist Bruno Andrade is another one with an update. He says Tottenham and Fonseca had a ‘verbal agreement’ since last week, also claiming it was a deal for two years with an option for another one.

The reporter says the manager even met Fabio Paratici ‘in the region of Milan’ where they were planning his first steps at Spurs.

However, on Thursday morning, when Fonseca was sorting the ‘bureaucratic issues’ of his move to England, he received a call saying the deal was now ‘undone’.

All very interesting and perhaps more details will come filtering out in the coming days.
