When Bruno Fernandes’ tears were spotted last night, we thought we would see them again on the front pages of Portuguese newspapers today.
But it turns out the Portuguese media didn’t give it any attention, with only some websites covering the reaction from the English press with relation to Manchester United.
What the local outlets really have today are several stories praising Bruno and talking about his importance for Sporting.
The captain received an ovation when having his name announced at Alvalade for the first time this season, and it’s getting pretty clear that club, squad and fans want him to stay.
That’s not to say none of the newspapers have something about a Manchester United transfer, we’ve actually found something from Correio da Manhã... as always.
They say Bruno Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho was at the Alvalade last night, and ‘everything indicates’ he brought the offer from Manchester United.
On Saturday, the same newspaper made it sound like Pinho had been ostracised to England until he came back with an offer, so that’s where they’re coming from with this.
Then they take claims from the English press to say this offer could be €72m plus €5m. But it’s not clear if the information about Miguel Pinho’s presence at the stadium is theirs or at least confirmed by them.
As we’ve said a few times here, Correio are not really doing a great job in this saga, with a few claims of bids that apparently never happened, and some insistence that Manchester United are always closer to signing the midfielder.
But still, that’s our job done of showing what’s being said today.
