It looks like it may really be happening. The Benfica defender Luisão is close to joining Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The English club’s interest had already been published in Portugal this morning, and now the local websites all have updates on the situation.
But O Jogo goes further than that. They say the defender accepted the move last night and has agreed to make the move.
Their article claims the Wolves have offered him a two-year deal, with a net salary of around €2m per season. That’s more than what he earned at Benfica, where he had only has one year of contract left.
O Jogo claims the transfer was sealed last night in London by the Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira. At 35, the defender would put an end to his dream of finishing his career playing for the Portuguese side.
Luisao left Cruzeiro to join Benfica in 2003, where he’s lifted 17 trophies. He’s also had 46 appearances for the Brazilian national team, winning a Copa America and two Confederations Cups.
