On Boxing Day, a weary Sport Witness soul covered a big article from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo on Wolves and Willy Boly.

‘Jackpot’ shouted out A Bola as they reported Boly’s season in the Championship was making sure Porto would get a good fee in the summer.

Porto had been concerned their €6.5m investment in the player could see a loss, but now there was optimism that even if Wolves didn’t use their €12m clause, there would still be an opportunity to profit from the defender.

Today they have a very similar article, but with a little more detail.

‘Jackpot’ once again is shouted out, and it’s reported Porto’s summer transfer kitty is likely to be boosted by the sales of both Boly and Chidozie Awaziem, the latter on loan at Nantes this season.

It’s Boly of interest to Wolves, and O Jogo state the Championship club are keen on a permanent transfer but ‘there are many others who have asked for them from their agents and are positioning themselves to make concrete proposals in the coming months’.

Wolves can of course use their €12m buying clause, but O Jogo have long doubted the club will do that without trying to negotiate with Porto first, today adding ‘It is not certain that both will push the option without trying to negotiate’.

Far be it from us to give Wolves negotiating advice (hey Jorge, listen up), but trying to get agreement and complete at a lower fee than €12m is worthwhile as long as the club make sure that would all be sorted out before the buying clause expires… so they’ve still got the €12m to fall back on.
