Mauricio Pochettino is still a possibility for Real Madrid, report Marca, despite Zinedine Zidane being back in the job.
Madrid were still in the fight for La Liga before the season was interrupted, just two points behind Barcelona, but it’s still regarded as being a difficult campaign for the Spanish club.
Doubt has been placed on Zidane repeatedly, such is the pressure being manager of the club.
Given Pochettino has been free to negotiate with others since he was kicked out by Tottenham, Marca have presented him as the number one candidate should a change be made.
The manager has hinted on repeat occasions that he’d quite like to take over at Real Madrid, and did so during his time at Tottenham… even if many Spurs fans refused to see it at the time.
Marca explain Madrid wanted the Argentine in summer 2018, but Daniel Levy refused to even negotiate, having just renewed his manager’s contract. That problem wouldn’t exist this time, and Pochettino’s name remains ‘in the boardroom’ at the Santiago Bernabeu.
For now, he’s ‘waiting’.
