Since Real Madrid sacked Julen Lopetegui in October, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been heavily linked with the managerial job at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Spanish newspaper AS has another claim and they state the Tottenham boss is aware that his ‘dream’ to manage the Champions League winners is ‘closer than ever’ next summer.
However, if Spurs fail to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europe’s elite club competition it would ‘complicate’ matters.
As of now, they’re third in the table with one point from three matches, level on points with fourth placed PSV, while Barcelona are leading the table with nine points, three points ahead of second placed Inter Milan.
The Premier League side host the Dutch outfit in the fourth group stage fixture on Tuesday and simply have to win the match to stand even an outside chance of qualifying.
AS mentions Pochettino’s prestige is on the line and it should be seen whether he can help Tottenham from crashing out of the group stages of the Champions League, and at the same time help his Madrid job prospects.
