With all due respect to the following clubs, that Christian Eriksen is being linked with Aston Villa, West Ham and Wolves shows how far his star has fallen since he left Tottenham Hotspur.
Moving to Inter Milan in the last winter window, the Denmark international was welcomed as a huge star, and unveiled at the city’s majestic Teatro alla Scala. At the time Inter were using #NotForEveryone as a marketing slogan, and it quickly became apparent that the Serie A club was not for Eriksen.
Having believed they’d got themselves a transfer coup from Tottenham, Inter now find themselves scrambling around for a suitable home for the player, with Antonio Conte clearly not a fan.
Mauricio Pochettino taking over at PSG has given some hope that the French club could be Eriksen’s next destination. There’s little doubt he’d be attracted by such a move, yet not everyone is fully convinced.
Speaking on Italian TV, journalist Massimo Marianella poured doubt on the idea, explaining Pochettino and Eriksen weren’t always a perfect fit at Spurs.
Inter News quote him as saying: “Mauricio Pochettino, in a press conference, said that any great player is welcome at PSG, and Eriksen falls into the category. I am a bit skeptical, because Pochettino struggled to find the position for Eriksen at his Tottenham.
“Then he found it, and he found a couple: he played behind the striker at times, more often behind the line of three behind Harry Kane, was on the left. The mezzala has rarely made it. In my opinion he is a player who, at the moment, in a team like this PSG, with Kylian Mbappé, Neymar and many other extraordinary players, would struggle to find a stable position. I am also a skeptic.”
Things are not looking very bright for Christian Eriksen, but with football so changeable there’s still every chance he could end the season on a high note.
