Tottenham Hotspur have been dragged into the Faouzi Ghoulam chase, despite it not making a great deal of sense. The 26 year old left back has a contract with Napoli running out in June 2018, and has so far managed to resists attempts to get a renewal signed.

If an agreement can’t be found Napoli are likelier to sell in the summer, rather than lose the player for free next year. There’s plenty of interest, and Gazzetta dello Sport throw Tottenham into the mix on Saturday.

With Ghoulam being a left back, and no doubt expecting first team football wherever he goes, Tottenham don’t appear to be a great fit. Danny Rose is unlikely to be dropped by Screen Shot 2017-04-29 at 11.56.51Mauricio Pochettino for the Napoli player, so at first glance it would appear an unlikely move.

The only way it makes sense is if Rose is on his way out, or if Pochettino plans on having two high standard left backs and perhaps coming up with a system which would play one further forward. It seems unlikely.
