Tottenham Hotspur have been given a huge boost to sign Basaksehir attacker Cengiz Under after it was officially announced Feyenoord’s Eljaro Elia has joined the Turkish club. Yesterday we covered reports from Turkey that Elia’s arrival could signal the departure of Under.
Basaksehir have confirmed on their website today Elia has signed a three-year contract after being linked with the Turkish club in recent weeks. The Dutchman’s arrival in Istanbul could now have implications for Tottenham in their pursuit for Under.
There have been recent claims Tottenham lodged a bid for the Turkey international, but this was later denied. However, yesterday Basaksehir manager Abdullah Avci said they were expecting a bid from Tottenham ahead of the summer window, even though he wanted the youngster to remain in Turkey.
Basaksehir are looking for a transfer fee in the region of €15m from any interested club wanting to sign Under, which is way above the reported €9m Tottenham recently tabled.
The North London club could also face competition from Manchester United, who last season sent scouts to watch the player. Tottenham did scout in Turkey last season, which could back up at least a general interest.
