Boubacar Kamara was born in Marseille, he went through the youth system at Marseille and became a regular for the first team. His period with his boyhood club saw him debut for the France national side earlier this year.

With his contract ending not long afterwards, the Ligue 1 side had fought hard to keep him with them. They felt that being able to offer Champions League football would be a temptation for him to stay and push his case for the France squad further.

Therefore, his move to Aston Villa caused some disappointment and surprise. It was felt he’d joined a lesser club and whilst that would bring Premier League football, there was doubt in France about the 22-year-old’s decision.

Now, with Aston Villa struggling and Steven Gerrard having been shown the door, there’s a chance for some in France to question Kamara.

Le10 Sport say his move has turned into a ‘fiasco’ and his decision is now ‘more open to criticism than ever’.

The report says Kamara moved to Aston Villa specifically for Gerrard, and has not only lost his manager but has seen his World Cup hopes hit by a knee injury.

Le10 Sport suggest the player could go ‘Champions League to relegation’.
