Marcelo Pitaluga is on the verge of becoming a Liverpool player.

After a week or so of reports from Brazil about Reds interest in the 17-year-old goalkeeper, on Friday it was claimed an offer had been accepted by Fluminense.

Globo now say the transfer is ‘imminent’ and the Brazilian club are expected to announce the player’s departure ‘in the coming days’.

They put the transfer fee at €1m, and explain that Fluminense hadn’t planned to part ways with the youngster this summer. Pitaluga, currently fourth choice, was seen as having the potential to make the club’s first team at some point in the future.

However, they need the money.

Globo say supporters will now be hoping there’s no more exits, but it’s made clear that won’t be the case. In need of more funds, the sale to Liverpool is unlikely to be Flu’s last.

The move is causing some controversy in Brazil, with it being thought Pitaluga is being sold because of bad management. There’s a need for money to pay wages, and some of those getting the highest salaries aren’t considered to be deserving of them.

None of that is Liverpool’s problem, and they’ll hope the goalkeeper can progress and learn from Alisson.
