Everton failed to sign Udinese’s Beto towards the end of the winter market.
The Serie A side rejected the Toffees’ bid and this was confirmed by their manager, Andrea Sottil, and their technical director, Pierpaolo Marino, last month. The latter even revealed Everton had made a ‘huge offer’ for the striker.
Mondo Udinese are of the belief the 25-year-old would have ended up at the Merseyside club if Udinese had signed Mateo Retegui, currently on loan at Tigre from Boca Juniors.
The Argentine’s father has revealed the Italian club “tried in every possible way” to secure Retegui’s services in January. His son wasn’t in favour of this and wanted to continue at Tigre.
His quotes are relayed by Mondo Udinese, who then state the South American’s addition to Udinese’s squad would have made it easier for them to sell Beto. His move to Everton ‘may have been held back’ in January because Retegui said no to Sottil’s side.
The situation could change in the summer and it may be possible for Udinese to return for Retegui.
Meanwhile, multiple reports in Italy have stated Everton are expected to return for Beto in the next window.
