Everton came out of the winter market without making any new additions to their squad.

That doesn’t mean the Merseyside club didn’t make efforts to bring in a new striker as they tried signing Udinese’s Beto towards the end of the January window.

In fact, Everton made an offer for the striker but it was turned down by the Serie A side. It was earlier confirmed by Udinese manager Andrea Sottil and then by their head of scouting, Andrea Carnevale.

Udinese technical director Pierpaolo Marino has joined the list to state his side rejected a late bid from the Toffees for the 25-year-old last month.

“We want to return to amaze as we did at the beginning of the season. We have every intention of making the most of the work done in setting up this team,” he told Rai Sport, relayed by SOS Fanta.

“It is clear that for Becao and especially Beto the club – and we thank you for this – has renounced a huge offer that arrived in the last days of January to keep him here, but it will be difficult to do so in view of next season. Even if in the end someone like De Paul stayed longer than expected due to the requests he had, he made two renewals.”

SOS Fanta explain the offer that was turned down by Udinese was made by Everton. A report from Italy last week stated the Premier League side continue to closely follow Beto with a view for a deal in the summer.

With Marino now confirming his side may not be able to hold on to the player beyond this season, Everton could be given another chance to sign Beto in the summer.
