Pep Reina’s father doesn’t seem concerned about Napoli signing a new goalkeeper for the next season. As rumoured in the Italian press this week, the Italian side would be interested in bringing Wojciech Szczęsny from Arsenal.
That would create an odd situation for the Spaniard, who has been the number one at Napoli since his €2m move from Bayern Munich in 2015.
That’s why Radio Kiss Kiss talked to Reina’s father, and asked him if his son would be affected by the potential Arsenal transfer.
“Szczesny? There is no problem: if he goes, Pepe likes the challenges, and then he would be happy because Napoli would still be strengthened: he is interested in winning,” Reina senior said (via Calcio Mercato).
Arsenal have Petr Cech and David Ospina at the club, hence Arsene Wenger’s decision to allow Szczesny to go out on loan.
On loan at Roma since 2015, Szczęsny lives a similar situation to Joe Hart’s at Torino. The goalkeeper is doing well at the club, but he’s considered too expensive to be permanently signed by them.
His agent has recently told Radio Crc that Napoli would be a ‘good option’ for him, and he’s expected to sit with Arsenal to talk at the end of the season.
