Following all the initial excitement regarding Boca Juniors’ chances of signing Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira, the rumour is slowly grinding to a halt.
The story started after the player and his father both spoke of a desire to join the Buenos Aires side, as he’d like to return to play in South America following his mother’s passing.
The news blew up in Argentina, but Torreira’s dad then explained there’s nothing certain about the move, since it’s something that started from the midfielder, who has always seen them as a dream club, and not from Boca Juniors.
We now have TN bringing an update on the situation, explaining that things are still far from sorted for the transfer to happen.
The outlet first makes it clear that there are no negotiations going on for the time being, and despite the wish from both Boca Juniors and Torreira, the talks with Arsenal are still to start.
They also say that should the La Bombonera side really go all out for the signing, then the midfielder would need to arrive on a one-year loan deal, as the Argentine side don’t currently have the financial conditions to pay for a permanent move.
