For weeks the Spanish media have been talking up a possible Marcos Alonso transfer, with Real Madrid one of the clubs most linked to the Chelsea defender.
With Alonso getting a long awaited national team call-up, it prompted lots of questions and articles about a return to Spanish football, maybe even in the summer transfer window.
Now, Marca are rolling back on that line a little. Alonso is expected to feature for Spain tonight and Marca say it’s the Chelsea player’s ‘dream’.
They make a point of saying it’s the dream Alonso is thinking about right now, rather than any transfer, and it’s explained the player’s ‘body and mind’ are at Chelsea.
Alonso is said to be ‘very happy’ at Chelsea and when asked by Marca about a potential transfer, he didn’t sound keen to talk it up too much.
The Spanish newspaper quote Alonso as saying: “I haven’t considered that possibility, I just try to give the best of myself to my team.”
Players talking down a transfer whilst on international duty? That makes a change.
