Emerson Royal’s move from Barcelona to Tottenham is now complete, with the player having agreed on a five-year deal at his new club.
That’s according to Marca, who say the full-back reached an agreement on a contract with Tottenham earlier today.
They say his agents have been negotiating with Spurs since yesterday and finally reached an agreement this morning, which is presumably why he did not train with Barcelona.
It ‘remains to be seen’ when Emerson will travel to England, but a deal has now been closed on a five-year deal.
Barcelona have also closed their negotiations with Tottenham, settling on a €25m fixed price plus €5m in variables.
The negotiations were considered ‘complex’ because Arsenal were the first to come forward for him, offering €10m plus Hector Bellerín, but in the end, Tottenham ‘upped their offer’ and closed the deal with the Catalan giants.
That left Spurs to find an agreement with the player, and at first he did not want to leave Barcelona, but they made it clear they wanted him gone.
That was a ‘hard blow’, and Nuno Espirito Santo stepped up to speak to the player personally and ensure him he would be a ‘very important player’ under him.
That seemingly convinced Emerson, and with his approval, his agents began negotiations, finally closing on a five-year deal this morning.
This is backed up by journalist Marcelo Bechler, who says Emerson has also passed his medical exams and signed for Tottenham.
According to his information, though, the deal was closed for €25m without the €5m in bonuses that Marca have claimed.
