In what seems to be a growing tradition, the European sport media on Monday are delving into a whole raft of claims from the Sunday Mirror, and largely seem baffled by it all.
The Mirror went on to state ‘Chelsea are close to a deal for Hamburg starlet Jann-Fiete Arp… the Premier League champions believe they have snared the youngster.’
This has all obviously made some impact in Germany, with there already being many articles covering the Mirror’s claims and discussing whether there’s likely to be any truth in it.
Arp sees his Hamburg contract expire in June 2019, which automatically makes the German club nervous, and efforts for a renewal continue.
As is almost always the case, the Arp to Chelsea rumours go back some way, and it was recently claimed in Germany that a ‘lucrative’ offer was rejected during the summer.
What’s seen as important for Arp is that he’s getting games with Hamburg, and there’s little point the 17 year old swapping that for Chelsea’s development squad. Any loan proposition would have to be very attractive to beat what he’s currently getting at HSV.
Anyway, all that aside, Bild have contacted the player’s agent and asked him about the English claims about Chelsea. Jürgen Milewski wasted no time and words, making himself very clear: “This story has nothing in it.”
